300 (2006)

This film is great but a bit
forgetful at times. In this 2007 flick based upon the graphic novel of the same
name, by Frank Miller, we get the story of how King Leonidas (portrayed by
Gerard Butler) forms an army of 300 brave Spartans to defend his country from
the armies of the self proclaimed Persian “god-King” Xerxes. Although the
feature’s plot is based upon a historical event, the movie must be place under
historical fantasy due to the fact that it introduces various fictional
creatures like the giant presented in the battle against the Immortals.

300 without a doubt is
perhaps Zack Synder’s best film, but although it is a great picture it can get
a bit forgetful at times. To me the plot is very important in a motion picture,
but this flick mainly focuses on the battles between the Spartans and Xerxes’s
armies giving the audience nothing but cool action scenes and very few scenes
of an actual plot. Now don’t get me wrong the action scenes in this movie are
beyond epic and of course if the film is suppose to be an action flick then it
is suppose to mainly focus on the action scenes. But I would have probably
preferred a bit more detail on a few characters and the film’s plot. Other than
that little flaw the movie is just a visual masterpiece and a masterwork of the
action genre.

Rating:
4 stars out of 5.
